Stowe Youth Baseball is a volunteer organization that strives to provide a high quality youth baseball experience for Stowe youth. So what is a “High Quality Youth Baseball Experience”? We emphasize and encourage the following:
- Fun! If it’s not fun at this level, kids aren’t going to keep doing it. We love baseball so we want kids to keep doing it.
- Positive Competitiveness! A competitive attitude is useful for anything in life, whether competing against your fear or anxiety to achieve something you want or competing with teammates to reach a common goal. We foster a positive competitiveness that starts with beginners and carries through to higher level players.
- Sportsmanship! Baseball offers a unique opportunity to foster sportsmanship because of it’s nature. Even the best players don’t play continuously, between innings, when they’re not at bat or in the field and that allows us to provide examples and guidance around being part of team and what that means, even when you’re not making the play or hitting the ball.
- Physical Challenge and Development! Baseball isn’t like soccer or lacrosse, it’s a game of tremendous bursts and down time, evaluation, adjustments and more bursts and more down time. We will run your kids so that they are physically spent at the end of the day but we will also be challenging them to develop their athleticism through the bursts and intensity necessary to the game.
- Patience! Again, baseball offers a unique opportunity to exemplify and teach patience and delayed gratification. Because of the pace of the game kids learn the importance of directing themselves at down times towards support of the team, preparation for their moment of action and being ready.
- Intellectual Development! This comes more at the Minors and Majors levels but it’s a part of what makes baseball unique. The best players are also the smartest players and baseball can offer a chance for your child to develop intellectually around strategy and rules of the game that need to be learned and applied in real, active and high intensity situations. There’s so much to learn to be a good baseball player and we make learning it FUN!
- Focus! There’s not a better athletic game to play to foster and build states of focus.
- Community! Because of the nature of the game baseball is a great way to foster a sense of community and belonging. The teams and coaches and parents are a community, the league itself is a community and the greater Lamoille County is a community. We believe in fostering this community and invite you to join us for what will hopefully be years, if not decades of building our baseball community.
